MEC is designated a 2009 Innovation of the Year

The League for Innovation in the Community College recognized Central Community College’s Mechatronics Education Center for the college’s 2009 Innovation of the Year. The award honored MEC innovations in the Learning and Teaching categories. (more...)


The MEC collaborative role in Workforce Development

The Mechatronics Education Center program plays an important role in developing the current and future workforce in Nebraska. Besides delivering training for over 1600 workers and students in technical workshops and college courses since 2005, the MEC has leveraged relationships with its business, education, and government partners to grow. Festo: A Key Partner in a Vibrant Program

Nine years ago, Festo Corporation, an international manufacturer and automation solution provider, and Central Community College (CCC), an innovative higher education institution, met at the Community College Futures Assembly in Orlando, Florida, and started a relationship that became the foundation for the Mechatronics Education Center (MEC). Helping develop a Mechatronics program in another state

Through MEC successes and collaboration with partners at a national level, Mechatronics Project Coordinator Dan Davidchik was invited to conduct a Mechatronics project workshop to the key leaders associated with the TechReadySC project - TechReadySC is a collaboration of five technical/community college programs in the Upstate region of South Carolina. MEC Technical Workshops build capacity of BD employees

In the summer of 2007, the Mechatronics Education Center successfully initiated a Return-to-Work (RTW) program which allowed educators the opportunity to learn more Nebraska manufacturers through a job-shadowing experience. In 2007, the RTW program successfully facilitated 41 educators from throughout Nebraska as they shadowed one of 18 host manufacturers. (more...)

MEC Technical Workshops build capacity of BD employees

Central Community College collaborated with MEC business participant BD Pharmaceutical to develop a training program - the SCF Customized Training Pilot Program was designed to improve both skill and knowledge areas within the department, and, ultimately, allow the SCF department to become more productive. Welding Training Provides Critical Skills for ESL Students

Leaders from business and industry shared concerns about their needs for workers with welding skills with leaders in the Nebraska Workforce Development office, the Columbus Economic Council, and Central Community College. To address the shortfall for welders in manufacturing, the group worked to develop and deliver two 112-hour welding programs. (more...)


Mechatronics Awareness Leads to Degree Program Growth

The Central Community College (CCC) Mechatronics/Industrial Technology degree program is beginning to reap the academic benefits of the Mechatronics Education Center (MEC) career awareness programs. Opportunities with the NFPA Education/Industry Summit

In March 2007, representatives from the National Fluid Power Association (NFPA) invited Mechatronics Education Center team members to submit an abstract for a proposal on fluid power. The proposal was accepted and MEC Project Director Doug Pauley presented it at the NFPA Education/Industry Summit in Chicago, Illinois, on August 21-22, 2007. (more...)
